The size discrepancies between brands must stop. There is literally no standard for women’s clothing. None. A size 8 jean might be a size 12 in one…

Not trying to co-opt your message, because it’s a good one, but that same BS happens with mens clothing also. I have to try on everything because what some place decides is 2X turns out to be L. This especially happens with band T-shirts. I’ve got a drawer full of disappointments.

I have to rant here because the person I’m ranting about is a friend on Facebook. I know the female lead singer of a very good indie rock band, and she kicks all kinds of ass on stage, but she’s also deeply religious and I respect her beliefs, but her post of a few days ago made me crazy.

After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It’s like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant!

Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting?

There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE pulled out her gun and shot the man 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened.

Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week.

A magic night with Alexz Johnson

I wanted to get this down while I can still remember the details.

Tonight, something happened that I’ve been waiting years for….I met Alexz Johnson. I honestly wasn’t sure it would ever happen, and now that it has, I’m still not believing it.

There were only a few VIP ticket holders so the meet & greet line was short, Alexz was very sweet, and signed my “Skipping Stone” vinyl and my wife’s copy of “Reloaded”. I stammered out a few sentences and she was very gracious :)

The show was amazing, the crowd was small (prob 40-50 people) but Alexz made the best of it. She waved us up to stand in front of the stage, and sang and performed her heart out. I almost decided not to, but you’ve got to make the most of events like these when they happen, they might not happen again.

There is no one with a voice like hers, and I honestly believe she is one of the most underrated singers (and songwriters) out there.

Alexz, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. This was one of the highlights of my life.

Lights is always gonna be Lights :)

God forbid a grown, adult woman have curves…

Ok, this is going to be a extremely geeky post but I saw a post on Reddit that really made me think about what is going to happen to our gaming history with the advent of digital-only/DRM-secured games.

Right now I can pull out a physical cartridge for a game console that is over 30 years old and play it, or barring having the physical media, I can run the same game with an emulator. The same with most game systems/PC games up until about the early 21st Century.

Now we have Steam, Origin, and other digital distribution systems, and while I’m not knocking Steam - it does it’s job very well and I’ve bought a lot of games from them, what happens when the authentication servers go out? I know that for many current games, the physical media is still available, but I don’t see that lasting too much longer. In thirty years will anyone be able to play a game from 2011? I feel like we are in danger of losing a large part of our gaming culture and history.

It’s possible that in years to come, some enterprising hackers will come up with a way to emulate those servers, but that seems a tenuous thread to rely on.

When dealing with others, I’d like to think I’d follow this persons’ example. I’ve never seen her hate, or be cruel to anyone, in fact I’ve never seen her be anything but kind and loving. The world would be a better place if we could all have that kind of nature.
